Palak Paneer-esque Hand-Held Pies

My love for Greek food spiced with Indian flavours is real and runs deep. I merge these cuisines’ flavour profiles often. These palak paneer-esque hand-held pies are a variation on novelle grecque food: traditional Greek food lightened up and gussied up with modern flavours. They are also a nod to the North Indian classic, Palak Paneer. Their inside texture is soft and creamy, packed with spinach and dotted with specks of cheese that look/taste a lot like paneer.

Addictive Cherry Chutney

The beauty of cherry blossoms inspires me. Every year, I make the effort to convince people to stop and revel in their beauty. For me, they symbolize the arrival of spring. The end of winter. An opportunity to savour the present moment. Prosperity. Joy. Beauty. Freshness. Maybe even a little bit of hope.

Cherry blossoms also remind me of the cherry tree in my parents’ backyard. In the dead of winter, their tree is barren, sparse, and diminished in its appearance. When the blossoms are in full bloom, I am reminded of the coming months’ potential.

Arrival of Autumn’s Jewels – Pomegranate & Asian Pear Salad with Chaat Masala Dressing

Despite the usual hustle bustle – surrounding raising four children, my parents took offbeat pauses to appreciate life with food. It was their way of displaying love. Because of this, every autumn, my siblings and I anticipated the arrival of pomegranates.

Pomegranates were not in vogue. They were unfamiliar, evoking another world, ancient and far away, especially in the small town where we lived. Their exotic appeal made them expensive. That didn’t stop my parents from buying one or two. Generously, they would decline eating any, stating they had many growing up in India and that it was our turn. So sweet.
